LITURGICAL CALENDAR FOR SEPTEMBER         SEPTEMBER 02, SEPTEMBER Blessed Guala Rogni of Bergamo At Pisogne, in Italy, Blessed Guala Rogni, friar and bishop of the Order of Preachers. Born in Bergamo, Italy about 1180, Guala Romagnoni was already a canon of that city when Saint Dominic received him into the Order in 1219. He accompanied the Holy Patriarch to Bologna and was later employed by him in establishing the Order in Brescia which he governed with prudence and zeal. At the death of St Dominic, Blessed Guala though not present saw in a vision the entrance of our Holy Father into heaven. In 1229 Pope Gregory IX appointed him Bishop of Brescia and Apostolic Legate to Lombardy.   He labored to reconcile Emperor Frederick II and the Pope and to establish peace among the cities of northern Italy. THE LITURGICAL CALENDAR FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 02, AUGUST Blessed Jane of Aza At Caleruega, in Spain, Blessed Jane of Aza, Mother of Saint Dominic and Blessed Mannes Blessed Jane was born of the prominent Aza family and married Felix de Guzman, a man “ rich and revered among his people ”. Three of their children spent their lives in the service of the Church: Anthony, Blessed Mannes and St. Dominic. According to the earliest and most reliable source, it describes Blessed Jane   as “ virtuous, chaste, prudent, and full of compassion for the poor and the afflicted; among all the women of the region she was outstanding for her good reputation .” She died at Caleruega, Spain, at the beginning of the thirteenth century. Her relics were now kept at the Dominican Monastery at Caleruega. Pope Leo XII confirmed her cult in 1828. LITURGICAL CALENDAR FOR THE MONTH OF JULY JULY 04, JULY Blessed Catherine Jarrige At Mauriac, France, Blessed Catherine Jarrige, lay person and virgin of the Order of Preachers. Blessed Catherine was born in 1754 and spent most of her life near her birthplace in Mauriac, France. The youngest of seven children, she was an embroiderer by profession. At the age of twenty-two Catherine became a Dominican Tertiary. When Catherine was thirty-two the French Revolution erupted in France. During the Revolution (1789-1799), Catherine shared persecutions, trials and imprisonment with many priests who did not adhere to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy. In Mauriac, Catherine found refuge and food for priests, and the bread and wine necessary for the celebration of Mass. At night she would hide the priests in the woods of the Auze Valley and accompany them to the families who needed the administration of the sacraments.
